ADATAS Cover

ADA Tasmania is the peak body for dental professionals in the state. We are a Branch of the Federal association ADALtd, and are guided by three core principles

  • Providing members with safe, high quality professional advice and support.
  • The promotion of good oral health practices among the general community.
  • The advancement of the art and science of dentistry.

We provide a range of benefits and services to our members including professional camaraderie, continuing professional development, advice and resources, news and updates and range of member benefits covering everything from insurance to vehicle purchases, practice management and finance.

Our administration is managed through the ADA Victoria Branch. CPD events in Tasmania are managed through agreement by ADANSW.

As part of your membership with ADATas, you are also able to access select resources through ADAVB and ADANSW.

Membership of this branch automatically includes membership of the Federal association ADA Ltd.

Councillors

Our Councillors are elected by the members to represent the profession of dentistry in Tasmania, ensure that ADATas as an organisation fulfils its mission and goals, and oversees the governance of the organisation.

Dr Daniel Frank Adatas
Dr Daniel Frank President

Dr Daniel Frank originally moved from Canada to Australia in 2014 to pursue his dental studies, graduating from James Cook University in 2018. He has lived and worked in Hobart ever since, building a strong foundation in private practice. Daniel is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons (General Dental Practice) and also holds a Fellowship in Restorative Dentistry. He has served as a Councillor for ADATas since 2022 and currently holds the role of Vice-President, as well as Chair of the Recent Graduates and Students Committee. Committed to strong governance and ongoing professional development, Daniel completed the AICD Foundations of Directorship course and examinations in 2024.

Dr Simon Lew Adatas
Dr Simon Lew Vice-President and Secretary

Dr Simon Lew graduated from the University of Adelaide with a BSciDent(Honours) and BDS in 2002, and a MBA in 2008.
Simon is an independent professional governor. He brings extensive experience in governance, risk management, and policy development across sport, health, and government organisations. Elected to the ADA Tasmania Council in 2022, he has a special interest in constitution reform, compliance and risk oversight, and strengthening governance frameworks.
Beyond dentistry, Simon currently serves as an independent appointed Director of Boxing Australia. Previously, Simon was Chairman and Director of Australian Taekwondo. He has also served as a ministerial appointee to the Boxing and Martial Arts Board in South Australia, while also serving on ADA NSW's Governance Committee.
A graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors’ Boardroom Mastery and Company Directors courses, Simon combines professional rigor with a passion for governance rigor, transparency, equity, and member welfare.

Dr Jessica Fergusson Treasurer

Dr Jessica Fergusson graduated from La Trobe University in 2014. She joined the ADATas Council in 2022 and has been a member of the ADATas Finance Committee, serving as Treasurer since 2023. Dr Fergusson currently works in private practice on the North-West Coast of Tasmania.

Dr Graham Hall Councillor

Mr Graham Hall AM was born in Poole, England in 1949, and graduated BDS (ULond) from Guy’s Hospital Medical School in 1972. Whilst at Guy’s he joined the BDA, served as ‘Hospital Dinner Secretary’ and sailed with United London Hospitals. He arrived in Australia in 1974 and set up the dental unit at Prince Henry’s Hospital in Melbourne before graduating MDSc Oral Surg (UMelb) in 1979, and FRACDS 1981. He moved to Hobart in 1980 and worked as an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon in public and private practice until 2022. He has been an ADA Member since 1974, a Tasmanian branch councillor since 1990, president 1994-1996, secretary 2009-2016 and now an Honorary Life Member. He was appointed as a member of the order of Australia in 2023 ‘For significant service to dentistry as an oral and maxillofacial surgeon’.

Dr. Saman Zehra Γçô Councillor
Dr Saman Zehra Councillor

Dr. Saman Zehra is an ADC-qualified dentist and has been a member of the ADA since 2021. She has been practising in a private dental clinic in the northwest region of Tasmania since 2023. Dr. Zehra is passionate about improving oral health outcomes in regional communities. Her professional interests include general dentistry and dental education, and she is committed to delivering high-quality patient care while promoting lifelong learning within the profession.

Dr Ruchika Garg Councillor
Dr Ruchika Garg Councillor

Dr Garg currently practises at Hopkins Dental Surgery in Moonah, Tasmania, where she is recognised for her compassionate approach, clinical excellence, and commitment to ensuring patients feel informed, supported, and at ease throughout their care. As a longstanding practice owner and director, Ruchika has successfully led and

managed a multidisciplinary team of more than 25 staff. Through this role, she has developed extensive expertise in governance, strategic leadership, operational management, and maintaining consistently high standards of clinical care and patient outcomes.

In addition to her clinical work, Dr Garg is actively involved in supporting and advancing the dental profession. She contributes to the Overseas Trained Dentists Committee (ADAVB), assisting internationally trained practitioners in integrating into the Australian dental workforce and professional community. Dr Garg is also strongly engaged in community and cultural initiatives. She is involved with the Indian Cultural Society of Tasmania and the Indian Medical/Dental Association of Tasmania, reflecting her commitment to inclusion, professional collaboration, and strengthening community connections.

Committed to lifelong love of learning and professional development, Ruchika is currently undertaking a Graduate Diploma in Australian Law. Her legal studies complement her strong interest in governance, ethics, advocacy, and healthcare regulation. Dr Garg combines clinical expertise, leadership experience, and a strong community focus with a professional, forward-thinking approach. She is dedicated to upholding excellence in patient care while contributing meaningfully to the advancement of the dental profession and broader community.

Dr Jeremy Mutombo Γçô Councillor
Dr Jeremy Mutombo Councillor

Dr Jeremy Mutombo graduated from Griffith University with a BDHS/MDent and from Monash University with a BBiomedSc(Hons). An early career practitioner working across multiple private practices, he brings a strong academic foundation and contemporary clinical training to the profession. Elected to the ADA Tasmania Branch Council in 2026, he offers a valuable perspective on the challenges and opportunities facing recent graduates and the future workforce.

Dr Derek Mahony
Dr Derek Mahony

Dr Derek Mahony is an orthodontist with more than 38 years of clinical experience and extensive involvement in dental governance, education, and professional leadership. He completed his dental and specialist orthodontic training before building a career that combines clinical practice with leadership across professional and community organisations. He has served as a Councillor for ADA NSW and ADA VIC, held leadership roles including Australian and International President of the International Association of Orthodontics, and contributed to organisations such as the Esseson Foundation. His experience spans clinical practice, board governance, education, mentoring, CPD development, digital health initiatives, and leading multidisciplinary dental teams, while maintaining active engagement across the broader dental profession.

Dr Yadir Singh
Dr Yadir Singh

Dr Yadir Singh moved to Tasmania from Durban, South Africa, in 2008. He has worked as the Senior Dental Officer for Oral Health Services Tasmania in Hobart and has been the Head of Department of Oral Surgery at Sydney Dental Hospital. Yadir holds a Membership (Dental Surgery) to the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. Yadir is a member of the Australian Dental Association (ADA) Tasmania Branch and is a founding member and public officer of the Australian and New Zealand Association of Oral Surgeons (ANZAOS). He is a member of the Board of Studies for Dental Surgery with the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons.
